Lumpy Home Pages: The Wedding

We were married on New Years Eve, 1999. The ceremony was very simple. We planned it during a Christmas Party 2 weeks before. We did the ceremony at the home of our good friends Marty and Lisa Beauchamp. They and another couple friend pair, Karl Weiss and Leanna Clark planned the whole thing on a drink napkin between dinner and dessert. Karl presided at the ceremony, so we now call him Father Karl, though really he is in marketing.

It was in my opinion, the best wedding I have ever been to, and I'm a guy and so would not normally even have an opinion about such things. It was completely genuine. There were no trappings, nothing elaborate about it. The evening was already planned as a New Year's Eve party. Megan and I had not really made any plans for the ceremony though we knew it would be simple. Any plans that involved something as complex as renting chairs would be way too much for us, so this wedding at the home of friends, and in the presence for friends was perfect. And they did all the work (and we are eternally grateful to them for what they did).

We did the ceremony at 10 and then shifted gears and started partying for the New Year. It was a great time.

Here we are with Marty and Lisa Beauchamp, who hosted the event in their home. Father Karl sweeps Sister Leanna off her feet. Barb Wilkinson (Meg's mother) and the boys in all their finery.

You gotta have one of these shots in every wedding album. Kerwin with Father Karl's "bible". It says "Fundamentals of Advertising Research". What a jip! Megan and I somewhat glassy eyed just after midnight. Later Sam has had enough of all this formality and sets to trashing the tux I rented for him.
